Newspaper Poem
Rivers in wait mode,
Once relaxed now sorry for what they did,
Spring is in the air.
Terror attacks, mystery accidents,
Survival mode makes an appearance,
Gap theory is down and out.
Education fails to capture laughs,
Psychological scars run deep,
Live forever in fear.
Big tumble on Tobacco restrictions,
Vaccines are more lethal,
Health care is shrouded in secrecy,
Spending is a simple civic duty.

Victory
He stands high above the water’s surface,
Reaches down and pulls back,
Toes gripping the edge,
Legs are locked into a spring mode.
The buzzer vibrates through the speakers,
The first one off the block,
The first to break the water’s stillness.
He surfaces in the middle of the pool,
His lungs at full capacity,
Arms reaching feet churning.
The crowd on edge,
The turn, the push off, the advantage,
He is in the homestretch,
Victory is sweet!
